A differenza della maggior parte degli altri premi musicali più importanti in Corea, il "Korean Music Awards" non prende in considerazione le vendite ed i vincitori (tranne per il Choice Award Netizen) sono determinati da una giuria di critici musicali ed esperti del settore, simile al Grammy negli Stati Uniti.
